Bear River Range Landslides, Cache County

Two landslides have occurred along U.S. Highway 89 in Logan Canyon in the Bear River Range, Cache County. They were reported May 3, 2023. One landslide is near Franklin Basin Road and the other near Tony Grove Road. Snowmelt is likely the cause of both landslides.

Landslide Type: Both landslides are rotational slopes.

Size: The landslide near Franklin Basin Road is about one-half of a football field in length (80 feet) and the scarp is 20 feet high. The landslide near Tony Grove Road is also about the size of one-half of a football field in length (80 feet) and the scarp is 10 feet high.

Special Conditions: Both landslides occurred on highway roadcuts with steep slopes.

Damages: Debris covered the road and was removed by UDOT. No permanent damages occurred.

Status: Not assessed.
