Truman Drive Landslide, Washington County

Updated June 6, 2023

Truman Drive in Santa Clara has been monitored for landslide activity since 1981. The landslide here has periodically grown in size over the past four decades. The most recent movement on the slide was discovered during a routine visit in 2023. Landslide initiation at Truman Drive coincided with housing development on Truman Bench in the late 1970s and early 1980s and the increased water application and slope modifications that accompanied the development. Periods of above-average precipitation have caused some movement of parts of the slide over the years.
