Payson Canyon Flooding/Road Failure, Utah County

A massive flooding event and subsequent road failure occurred May 20, 2023, on Nebo Loop Road in Payson Canyon near the Peter Wimward Reservoir Road turnoff. The flooding that caused the road failure was due to melting snowpack along the right flank of a large landslide complex.

Size: 200 feet wide

Special Conditions: Excessive flooding due to melting snowpack along a landslide complex.

Damages: The road has completely failed due to flooding and landslides, and will be closed until major repairs are completed.

Status: Active
