Park City Marriott Mountainside Landslide, Summit County

A landslide occurred on the slope above the Marriott Mountainside hotel in Park City on April 30, 2023. Clay-packed joints were saturated and caused mobilization of a bedrock block of the limestone-rich Park City Formation.

Landslide Type: Translational Block Slide

Size: One-half of a football field long and 15 feet deep.

Special Conditions: Excessive snow saturated a cut slope having a residential development at the top.

Damages: The hotel ground floor exterior and interior sustained minor damages. A storm drain was also displaced.

Status: Stable but saturated.
