The boulder at the park entrance is quartz monzonite of the Little Cottonwood stock and was originally from the Temple Quarry in Little Cottonwood Canyon. The drill holes along the left side of the boulder were made in the late 1800s by quarry workers using sledge hammers and hand-held drill bits.
