Geologic Guide to Wasatch Front Canyons

November 18, 2005

The Utah Geological Survey recently published Geologic Guide to the Central Wasatch Front Canyons, Salt Lake County, Utah. For the first time, a concise geologic road guide to Salt Lake County’s Wasatch canyons is available to the public. Striking beauty, abundant recreational opportunities, historic mining and pioneer locales, and a unique geologic story stretching back over one billion years make these canyons a world-class attraction.

This 28-page brochure is filled with color pictures, illustrations, and fold-out maps perfect for the public or the geologist who want a quick synopsis of the local geology. Maps show the roadside geology of the six canyons open to vehicles: City Creek, Emigration, Parleys, Mill Creek, Big Cottonwood, and Little Cottonwood Canyons.

The publication is available at the Natural Resources Map & Bookstore, 1594 West North Temple, Salt Lake City (801-537-3320 or 1-888-UTAHMAP; mapstore.utah.gov) at a cost of $3.95.
