A new technical publication entitled Earthquake scenario
and probabilistic ground shaking maps for the Salt Lake City,
Utah, metropolitan area, has been released by the Utah
Geological Survey.
This is the complete version of the study that produced the
Public Information publication titled Ground-shaking map
for a magnitude 7.0 earthquake on the Wasatch fault, Salt
Lake City, Utah, metropolitan area- a useful lay guide
to the earthquake ground shaking hazard in the Salt Lake area.
The new $25.00 publication describes how the maps were made
and contains a CD with GIS coverage from which maps could
be produced and combined with other information. The maps
are not intended for use in design of structures, but rather
to increase awareness and facilitate emergency response planning
and loss estimation.
