Consolidation Coal Company - Emery Mine

The Emery mine produces coal from the "I" seam of the Ferron Sandstone Member, Mancos Formation. The original mine, the Browning, was opened in 1881 and operated intermittently until the late 1930s; and continuously from 1936 to 1989. The mine was purchased by Consol in the late 1960s. New portals were developed north of the Browning mine in 2002, but the mine has been idle since fall of 2003 and is in the process of being sold.
