Utah Geological Survey Board Meeting
Board meeting and field trip location - dinosaur excavation site, 12 miles east of Ferron, Utah, in the San Rafael Swell.
Board Members present:
- Russell Babcock
- Milton Wadsworth
- Jerry Golden
- Richard Kennedy
- William Berge
Others present:
- Lee Allison, Director, Utah Geological Survey
- Mel Parker, Governor's Office of Planning and Budget
Meeting convened at 12:30 pm. Following a tour of the dinosaur excavation. Approval of April 12, 1996 minutes moved by Milt Wadsworth, seconded by Jerry Golden, approved unanimously.
Chairman Babcock recommended action on the mapping programs plan for SMAC be deferred until the next meeting. W. Berge will work with UGS staff on any changes or revisions to the SMAC plan.
The meeting was turned over to Director Allison to report on new developments at the UGS:
- Opening of UGS Cedar City office
- Promotion of Kimm Harty as Deputy Director
- Hiring of Cheryl Ostlund to replace retiring Board secretary Roselyn Dechart
- Plans for new sample library
- Resolution of concerns about archeological dig at Dugway
- Negotiations for sale of USGS publications
- Completion of move to DNR complex
- Progress of bookstore and library in servicing other DNR divisions
R. Kennedy moved that the Board recognize and thank UGS employees David Gillette and Martha Hayden for their efforts and success in hosting and organizing the field review. B. Berge seconded. Approved unanimously.
