Utah Wetlands

Knowing the location and extent of wetland resources is the first step to implementing appropriate conservation and management strategies. The Utah Geological Survey (UGS) is part of an ongoing effort to develop a comprehensive, statewide wetland mapping program with the goal of updating spatial data for wetland and riparian resources across the state.

All Utah wetlands were mapped to National Wetland Inventory (NWI) standards developed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and do not represent jurisdictional boundaries. The UGS has reclassified the NWI data into six wetland types and added 17 wetland subtypes as described by Utah Wetland Functional Classification: Version 1.
