Geologic-hazard maps generally show areas that may be subject to the effects of earthquakes, landslides, debris flows, rock falls, poor soil conditions, radon, or floods.  The main purpose of geologic-hazards maps is to identify where geologic hazards may be present and where additional evaluations are needed to assess hazards and recommend mitigation measures prior to development.
